DAY 331 A BRAVE NEW WORLD … USA
We made it!
I stare out of our port-hole into the dark heavens. We flew all night. I actual slept well after passing through a fit of ankle irritation. Soon the Sun will rise, and when the sun rises we will begin a brand new day in the United States of America. If I imagine enough, I can see the very beginnings of dawn. I can see the lightning strike in the clouds below. I can see the lights of Miami coastline. We have arrived. We’re back! After passing through customs we rented a car and what do you know, the rental car drove straight to Wal-mart America. Then the rental car drove us all the way to Key Largo at the end of the Florida Keys. OK, we did not make it all the way to the end where we could take a picture of us 90 miles from Cuba, but we made it half way to Marathon. Well, no, we never made it to Marathon and we did not drive across the 7-mile- bridge. We stopped at Anne’s “Beach” just outside of ISLAM-OR-ADA … and that was enough! “Dad, why did you bring us to this beach?” – Ezra. The beach was basically a mangrove swamp area. Horrible. Absolutely unnecessary roughness, especially coming from the beautiful beaches of Florianópolis. So, we quickly ate our picnic lunch and turned around and drove straight back to the hotel where we checked in and went straight to the swimming pool, and I quickly entered dreamland where I could not even be shaken even when Ezra jumped from bed to bed.
