Old man. Old woman. Plumb tired of living. Embassy worker. Great Wall of China walker. Musician with no legacy and a household of generational love and dogs to boot. Drove home and followed some crazy drivers. Went for a swim in the swimming pool, the last of the year. Tried to feel the zero G’s of younger years. Went to bed long before midnight with fireworks, music and barulio abound.

We thought about driving up the volcano, but Dwana was not feeling well. I am not really in adventure mode. So many things to think about. So many things. Went to Lahaina town to the library. Uncle Cayce left Viena alone in the library alone in the library while I took Ezra into the bathroom. Tears. Sadness. Fears from Viena, said the librarian. Went to Black Rock beach. Dropped Ezra and Uncle Cayce off at the beach. Viena would not go. Viena and I drove a mile down to the nearest parking lot. We watched the sunset ceremony at Black Rock. Cayce and Ezra played in the water. the sun was glaring. Cayce had a facebook dilemma.

We went to the beach at Napili. Cayce made a sand castle with Ezra and Viena that they could play with and the water would not mess up. Cayce and I went snorkeling out near the coral reefs. We saw some fish, but not too many. Just cool being out there. We really need to take advantage of this area. Ezra walked with Dwana to the end of the beach where they looked tiny tiny. Cayce even took Viena into the water. Lots of people standing by the memorial on the side of the highway for Blaze. I think about people passing every day, but this is the one death I see.

I walked to the park with Ezra to fly a kite. He spent most of the time looking at other kids toys. He wanted his dune buggy. Oh well. What a crazy warm Christmas. Took a power nap where I just passed out holding Dwana’s hand. James called. We spoke about weaved enlightenment. I had a dream about a giant sequoia trees in the light – so nice.

Uncle Cayce travels from Asia to surprise Ezra and Viena as one of Santa’s elves. Spent past midnight in Santa’s workshop. Good to see Cayce in Kahului.

WE all woke up together. A hug from Viena. A snuggle from Ezra. Wow. How mornings could be. Instead. Signs of Uppa. A bird that flew over the car. A little boy local with flip-flops left for Ezra in Kihei. A highway accident possible life altering on the way in the morning. Traffic was backed up. A guy named Blaze, a local, 19. I dropped off everyone for Keiki time at KAM III. I wish I could write down all the thoughts of my day from the symmetrical family of kids to the lunches to the rooms with a view and the stairs to nowhere. When do you start living? Where is this living? Maui Time. I can not say this island will be missed. I can not say. And what of the day of Dwana and the children. We are separated. We are reunited. 25 years ago what was happening. The breeze is blowing. The palm trees. The rains are trying to fall. We jumped in the swimming pool, Viena and I, and that left me cold with the warm wet wind. Cars along the road can be heard as well making this swoosh sounds. What of the sun? What of the sand? What of this place in middle of the ocean. And what does tomorrow hold. What can tomorrow hold to make today today and not just another day? Viena says she will go to bed by herself when she turns 7. Yeah, right.

Thursday, 13 December 2012 DAY 236 MOON 8 WANING 2%
Ezra woke up saying, “I want to go to Forrest’s, but we are on this island!” The island feeling really does come through more for some people than others. Oh well, what is life without interruptions. Viena and I again tried to attend art class, but this time the teacher was at a funeral, the other day she was at a wedding, what will tomorrow hold. Viena’s tooth is wiggling out more these days. She seems to have her groove as long as school is not mentioned. Her reading is coming along. Her art is superb. These are the days. Ezra bonked his head on a side view mirror.

We arrived at the Ritz and used their hammocks tied to coconut palm trees. We played in Ritzville the game of baboon tag and shuffleboard while Dwana spoke with Ira about Uppa and the failing of Ira’s marriage. I ran back to the van in my new 4-toed shoes. They gave me 3 blisters. Not my kind of shoes, but sometimes you have to try new things. We came home and played in the swimming pool and they rode on my back and I tried to throw them off. the sunset was nice to view from the park.
